Description
Laser Megajoule supercomputer. These processors are part of the TERA-10 supercomputer, used to process results and simulations related to the Laser Megajoule (LMJ). TERA-10 has 50 teraflops (50,000 billion operations per second) of computing power, and consists of over 4000 Intel Montecito dual-core processors, connected by a Quadrics network. It is the most powerful supercomputer in Europe. The LMJ is an experimental nuclear fusion device being built near Bordeaux, France, and is scheduled for completion in 2012. Photographed at the Military Applications Division (DAM) of the French Atomic Agency (CEA), in Bruyere-le-Chatel, France.
