Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Fruit fly tarsal claw and pulvillus (Drosophila melanogaster). An adhesive substance is secreted through the tubular tenent setae on the pulvillus. Drosophila is a genus of fly from the family Drosophilidae. The species Drosophila melanogaster is known as the common fruit fly or vinegar fly. Drosophila melanogaster is widely used for biological research in studies of genetics, physiology, microbial pathogenesis, and evolution. This fly can be an agricultural or household pest.
