It is a sequel to the 1953 film "The Robe" and continues the story of a Roman tribune named Marcellus Gallio (played by Richard Burton) and his experiences with Christianity in the early days of the Roman Empire.

The film is set in ancient Rome and revolves around the character of Demetrius (played by Victor Mature), a Christian slave who becomes a gladiator after inheriting the robe of Christ, which is believed to have healing powers. The central conflict of the movie arises when Demetrius is forced to fight as a gladiator against his will, leading to a series of events that challenge his faith and resolve.
