The story behind the artwork displayed on this greeting card began as my entry into very selective art show that ultimately made the cut! The subject matter that I had to work with created a real challenge because I had to imagine how I was going to implement "lipstick and rouge" into it.
Though outside of my usual interests, I began to think about subject matter that I was interested in taking a shot at regardless of the show. Though a long shot for acceptance into this particular show, I decided to create an illustration inspired by cheesy science fiction b-movie posters that I later titled "Invasion of the Hypnonauts". Once I decided that this was the route to take the rest fell into place nicely. Rouge was easy enough as long as I used a large amount of the color red, but how would I use lipstick? I knew everything about the piece needed to be over the top and exaggerating the lips and likewise the lipstick would help make an already dynamic scene even more epic.
"Invasion of the Hypnonauts" was created through the use of digital illustration methods.
