Description
Established in 1720 by Fray Antonio Margil de Jesus, Mission San Jose y San Miguel de Aguayo served as the model mission in Texas. Mission San Jose's grand scale, exquisite architecture, and emphasis upon community drew heavy praise from visitors. The "Queen of the Missions," San Jose continues its spiritual mission to the residents of San Antonio.
The arched walkway in Mission San Jose's cloister offers a path for reflection to contemporary pilgrims seeking solitude.
In 1978 the United States National Park Service and the San Antonio Archdiocese entered into a cooperative agreement creating the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.
The San Antonio Missions (The Alamo & San Antonio Missions National Historical Park) is an inscribed UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Image captured with a Canon 5D Mark III & Canon 24-105 f/4L IS USM lens.
