Description
This cedar waxwing is a favorite of bird watchers and is known for its distinctive black mask and red wing tips. It travels in flocks and, in urban areas, can often be found in cemeteries or on golf courses with well-spaced trees. They also love running water, such as streams or creeks. This cedar waxwing is perched on an apple tree branch.

Of all the bird photographs I've taken (and enjoyed viewing) this one is definitely in my top ten! What exquisite work, Laura!!! F/L++

Thanks so much, Nancy. That means a lot to me. All those days sitting and waiting in the cemetery finally paid off! Thanks again!

This is such a pretty capture. The composition and color palette are both terrific! V/Pamela

Excellent capture! You can see both the special markings on the wings. I'm so jealous as I have yet to get a capture I am satisfied with of this beautiful bird! f/v
Laura D Young replied:
Thanks so much, Elizabeth. It took me two weeks of back and forth to a local cemetery this spring to capture this. Every time I picked a spot to hide and wait - the flock would come in on another tree. This one left the group and landed right in front of me. I was SO lucky! Not a cooperative bird. I, too, had tried for years. I am back to the Chickadees now. Lol
