Description
Aircraft fuel injection simulation. Supercomputer 2D visualization of the flow field through three of the nine fuel injectors of a Lean Direction Injection (LDI) design intended to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The top image shows contours of gas temperature and the bottom image shows contours of nitric oxide (NO), an example of an NOx pollutant being tracked here. This 9-point LDI simulation, a computational fluid dynamics model, was performed on NASA's Pleiades supercomputer using 576 Intel Xeon Westmere processors. This simulation was featured at the SC13 supercomputing conference in November 2013.
