Description
Orchid flowers (Cymbidium eburneum). The central, yellow-tinged structure (only one of two flowers seen clearly) is a specialised petal called a lip. It attracts pollinators and provides them with a landing platform. This is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows in trees). It is found in the mountains of the Himalayas and South-East Asia. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
